Zequn Wang
who was born in China and currently studying the MA Illustration course at Edinburgh College of Arts.
who like "useless things" such as music, art, literature and philosophy, and fantasizes about becoming a poet and artist.
Painting and art are both a source of pain and an outlet for my emotions. I like to combine the natural landscapes or things around me, with my own ideas, or the feelings mentioned by others that I have never thought about to create art. For example, "The Mountain, The People" is comparing stress to a mountain, and myself surrounded by people and anxiety, finally became the mountain itself. I have choosen Mono print as main media instead of traditional painting, the using of ink marks and lines to more directly reflect my emotions, and express my depression and emotions surrounded by anxiety. The following acrylic paintings combine the artistic conception of Chinese landscape painting and abstract colours.
I also tried to make a book for the first time during my MA course. "The Moon is Beautiful Tonight" is a collection of poems and paintings about the moon, not a simple picture book nor a pure collection of poetry, my ambition is to create a unique art book, which contains not only literary poetry, but also my love and emotion. I hope that when readers read, they can appreciate my poems and paintings like the moon, and feel that the moon is as lonely as us, but at the same time so beautiful. While appreciating the works, you can also comfort yourself, and even generate the desire to create art and poems.
